Greetings ~

Every evening the thing to do in Akron, Ohio was to tune into the Tom Erickson show on WNIR radio. Tom hosted a talk show that dealt with any topic that the caller wanted to discuss. Topics ranged from the regular street talk to space and Bigfoot, news headlines, politics, ghost sightings and UFOs. Nothing was taboo but no swearing or nasty talk was allowed. Tom had a show that all ages could listen to. Some of his callers were under 16-years old. Tom talked with them the same as he did with the adult callers.

Every evening without fail, Tom was there at 6:00 pm until 11:00. He became a part of your family. If you were feeling down and needed some advice, call Tom! It was like calling a relative. He'd pick you up and get you going again.

But then, all of a sudden, Tom was gone. At first we didn't know what had happened. Then we heard he was sick and resting at home for awhile. But then, we got the terrible news that Tom was suffering from cancer. Still a fairly young man, we were all saddened to hear that Radioboy had died. It was a real blow to the Akron community. We had lost three of our favorite radio family. Howie Chizek, Joe Finan and then Tom Erickson.

It's been awhile now that they have been gone. Radio had moved on but there's a big void in broadcasting. That void will never be filled again with the likes of Tom Erickson.
